To work out how many panels you need, measure your wall at its widest point and divide by the panel width for your material: 19 inches for Peel and Stick, 25 inches for Traditional, 24 inches for Commercial Vinyl. Round up to the next whole number. Then measure the wall at its tallest point and choose a panel height that clears it.

Think Noir wallpaper is made in panels, not rolls. Panels are installed side by side with no overlap, so the only number that changes between materials is the panel width.

HOW TO MEASURE AND CALCULATE WALLPAPER PANELS in three steps
  1. Measure the wall WIDTH at its widest point.
  2. Divide by your panel width (19, 25, or 24) and ROUND UP! That is your panel count.
  3. Measure the walls HEIGHT at its tallest point and pick the panel height just above it.

What Panel Sizes Does Think Noir Come In?

Know what you are ordering before you measure. Each material has a fixed panel width and a set of height options.

Material Panel width Divide wall width by Available heights
Peel and Stick Wallpaper 19'' 19 48", 96", 108", 120"
Traditional Wallpaper 25'' 25 48", 96", 108", 120"
Commercial Vinyl Type II 24'' 24 48", 96", 108", 120"

How Do You Measure a Straight Wall?

Width (measure at widest point) Height (tallest point)

A straight wall is the simple case. Every panel is the same height and every seam runs floor to ceiling. Measure the width edge to edge, measure the height floor to ceiling, divide the width by your chosen wallpaper material panel width, round up, then pick the height that clears your wall.

Example: a wall 120" wide and 102" tall. Peel and Stick: 120 ÷ 19 = 6.3, so 7 panels at 108" height. Traditional: 120 ÷ 25 = 4.8, so 5 panels at 108". Commercial: 120 ÷ 24 = 5, so 5 panels. The 96" height falls short of 102", so 108" is the right height for all three.

How Do You Measure a Slanted Wall?

Width (measure at widest point) Height (tallest point)

A staircase wall or a wall under a pitched roof looks harder than it is. The method does not change. Measure the height at the tallest point of the slope and the width at the widest point. Each panel is trimmed to the angle during installation.

The common error here is choosing the panel height from the short end of the slope. Do not. Every panel has to reach the tallest point so the pattern lines up once panels are cut to the angle.

How Do You Measure a Wall With a Door or Window?

Full width (ignore the opening) Full height

Measure doors and windows as if they are not there. Order panels for the complete wall, then cut around the opening as you install. This is the only way to keep the pattern matched from one side of the opening to the other.

Subtracting the opening breaks the pattern at its edges and usually leaves you a panel short. The offcut from around a window is often reusable elsewhere, so it is rarely wasted.

If an opening such as patio doors spans most of the wall, contact us before ordering, since very large openings can change the practical count.

Panel Count by Wall Width

A quick reference. Find your wall width, read across to your material. Always confirm against your own measurement.

Wall width Peel and Stick (19") Commercial (24") Traditional (25")
60" 4 3 3
80" 5 4 4
100" 6 5 4
120" 7 5 5
140" 8 6 6
160" 9 7 7
180" 10 8 8
200" 11 9 8

For widths between these figures, divide by your panel width and round up. When the result lands close to a whole number, order one panel more. A spare panel costs far less than a re-order.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many wallpaper panels do I need?
Measure your wall width in inches at the widest point and divide by your panel width: 19 for Peel and Stick, 25 for Traditional, 24 for Commercial Vinyl. Round up to the next whole number.
Which panel height should I order?

Measure your wall at its tallest point and select the panel height option that is slightly taller than that measurement. For example, if your wall is 102" high, order the 108" panels rather than the 96" panels. Any excess material can be trimmed at the ceiling and floor during installation.

We always recommend ordering panels that are a few inches taller than your actual wall height. Walls are not always perfectly level, measurements can vary slightly, and installation adjustments may be needed. Choosing a taller panel provides extra flexibility and helps ensure a perfect fit.

Do I subtract doors and windows from my order?
No. Measure the full wall as if the opening is not there and order for the full width. The wallpaper is cut around the opening during installation, which keeps the pattern matched.
What if my wall is an unusual shape or I am unsure?
Round up or contact us before ordering. Getting the count right the first time is easier than managing a re-order.

Before You Order

Measure twice with a tape, round up, and pick the height that clears your tallest point. If you have not settled on a design, order wallpaper samples first to check the pattern, color, and scale in your own room light. Any question about your wall? Get in touch before you buy.
